Photo: Whatchu' Lookin' At Suckuh?
I am very proud to announce the arrival of our little Leah. Her mother endured about two hours of rather obnoxious contractions yesterday afternoon before the epidural arrived. Then she and Dave promptly went to sleep after she had publicly declared her love for anesthesiologist. Not being able to sleep through the lumberjack, buzz saw snoring of her parents, which was accompanied by Christmas tunes, the weather channel, and a rather loud fetal monitor, I roamed the halls making friends with the nurses, midwives, and doctors. Early this morning, the sleeping mama awoke to be told she could push and 25 minutes later, at 8:20 AM, a very quiet and perplexed little girl emerged all shiny and purple.
She is so calm and she looks like a tiny elf. She has very dainty features and just wants to look around, only adding a tiny little squeak when she feels things need to be said. She weighed in at 6lbs. 13 oz. with brown hair and auburn highlights. As it turns out, she pulled off quite the little hoax since she is neither big, nor orange, like we had all suspected (including ALL of the midwives). Her features suggest that she takes after her Grandma Nancy, and her Aunties' Ali and Em. I'm cool with that.
Photo: She isn't crying, just trying out different shapes with her mouth without making any noise!
She has been named for both of her grandmothers, bearing each of their middle names: Leah Elizabeth. I love her already, and I even think her mother might just let her out of her grounding, despite all the torment of the last several months.
Welcome little Leah Elizabeth!
PS - Despite all the ribbing we gave Dave, he was an excellent labor coach. He should be very proud.

Yay for not being orange! She actually looks quite rosy.
That was ten minutes later. Her feet and hands were still a little purple.
Wonderful! Only 2 hours of labor! Luck-E. I professed my love for my anesthesiologist, especially my first one, and so did Bryan. Glad she made it to the 14th so she doesn't have to worry about Friday the 13th.
I hope we will be seeing more photos of the little girl, who is not Big or Orange but a nice pinky color.
Congratulations to Ali, auntie of the small, pinkish baby of the big orange parents!
Sorry Karin, 16 hours of labor, only two hours of contractions she had to feel. She slept through the rest.
Congratulations to Karen and Dave - she is lovely!! really pleased for you all xx Congrates Auntie Ali!
Congrats on becoming an aunt (again) :-) Tell Karin and Dave she is adorable!
What a beautiful little girl, and I type that with utter awe! I didn't think new borns were supposed to be pretty. What do they do different in NC hospitals, or is it some special somethin in the water?
Congratulations to the Big Orange Family! She is absolutely gorgeous!
Leah's a good looking kid.
Wait, where do babies come from? Was Karen pregnant?
Yay baby! I want to see her. MORE PICTURES PLEASE!!!
I think she looks like Ali!
She's adorable! Much less wrinkly and weird looking than your typical newborn. (not that I have much exoerience in that area) Ali, I do think it was a bit much for you to put lipstick on the poor child before the photo shoot...
:)
Leah is adorable! She came out very nicely. I'm with April, I want more pictures!!
