My Dream Office

Photo: Left Side of L-Shaped Desk (hubby's side)

Phil's office changed all their furniture over the Thanksgiving break, and offered the very high quality furniture to their employees. One of Phil's co-worker's decided she didn't want hers at the last minute and so hubby and I got all of it. I must say the price was right too, you can't beat $0. We had to change the configuration, so we bought some folding table legs at Home Depot and screwed them into these solid wood desktops. Now we have a desk in an L-shape that takes up two full walls of our office and gives us a lot of workspace.

This is now the office of my dreams. I have so much workspace that I was finally able to move all my sewing stuff out of the dining room and into the office.

Photo: Wrapping Paper/Sewing Cubby

One piece of the furniture is this cubbyhole cupboard that was originally meant for blue prints and samples (Phil works at an architecture firm in case you forgot). It has made a great wrapping paper cubby and other sewing supplies, like batting and muslin. I organized all of my fabrics by color in colored bins, as well as a bin for current projects, scraps, and ribbons/zippers. The bins were $2 each at the organization store by Phil's house.

Since there was almost foot of space left between the cubby and the wall, we folded up my old desk/folding table that can easily pulled out for working on sewing projects, and just as easily put away when I am not. This really is the office of my dreams. I really love lots of workspace. I had so much of it at my previous job in Boston because the job was so creative. Since I never stopped being creative, it is nice to be able to spread my stuff out again.

In other news, we had to relocate the tree this year because of the new couches. So here it is, just in case wondering where my tree was, is keeping you up at night.

You do love organizing things...not only is it your dream office, you must have been as giddy as a school girl all day at the prospect of putting things (by color) into specific locations :)

I LOVE being organized, some might call it a little OCD but it works for me (and I try to make it work for others) and Bryan notices when I am not my usual "organized self" and comments that he likes it better that way too.

I want an office like that. I need an organized place for all my crafty stuff. I am learning how to quilt a wall hanging right now and wish I had a place all to myself. Maybe someday (I hope).

I admit it, I am a lurker on your blog. Occasionally, if I have nothing else to do, I search for Jake's comments, which generally have me on the floor laughing. I just thought you would want to know that.
I NEVER comment, after all, I am a lurker. But this post demands a comment:
I am JEALOUS of Ali's DREAM OFFICE! It is wonderful. Fantastic. Congratulations. You deserve it! Someday I will come to your home, and sit in your beautiful office, and bask in the light it emits. I hope your mom is there when I arrive.

This a red-letter day!! Momma Kane comes out of hiding? Just tell us when you want to come, and Momma Yeagley can come to. She'll be here the 3rd-19th of January.

Amy, you know me too well. And Karin, I applaud your OCD-ness.

And I love the tree, too! It is beautiful and festive and right now I wish Christmas trees were up all year round but I probly won't wish that in a month. The too is because everyone else commented on your office, which is FAB so I just put up my too.
